Dr. Harriman grew up in a small fishing community in down-east Maine and comes from 3 generations of lobster fishermen. He spent summers on a lobster boat and became interested in medicine after volunteering at a hospital. He graduated from George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill, Maine, and went on to study Biochemistry at the University of Maine, where he received a full scholarship. He became interested in dentistry after shadowing a dentist in college.
After graduating Summa Cum Laude, he went on to attend Boston University School of Dental Medicine, where he received awards in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Periodontics/Oral Biology, and Prosthodontics. While in dental school, Dr. Harriman won the prestigious AADR Student Research fellowship for his research in amelogenesis. He was also a member of the ASDA legislative committee and traveled all around the country to lobby for legislation to help improve access to care for the underserved. He graduated from Boston University with his Doctor of Dental Medicine Degree (DMD).
Dr. Harriman went on to attend medical school at Drexel College of Medicine in Philadelphia where he met his wife, who is a general dentist. He graduated with his Doctor of Medicine (MD)and went on to serve as an anesthesia resident for 6 months at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia. Performing general anesthetics in the operating room setting. He subsequently finished 24 months of general surgery training where he performed full body surgery at the same institution.

His training at the University of Michigan provided him with more advanced experience than what most oral surgeons receive.
